Our Story

More Than 35 Years of Purpose and Progress

Laurel Lake began with a vision: to create a vibrant, caring community where older adults could live independently, pursue their interests, and feel secure about the future. In the mid-1980s, Cleveland businessman Richard Eastburn was inspired by the Life Care concept his parents experienced in Philadelphia and dreamed of bringing it to Northeast Ohio.

In 1985, Laurel Lake was officially incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. A picturesque 150-acre site in Hudson, Ohio, was chosen for its natural beauty and proximity to both Cleveland and Akron. Just four years later, in January 1989, the first residents moved in, turning the vision into reality. From the start, Laurel Lake set out to combine modern senior living with genuine neighborly warmth.

Growth and Milestones

Through the 1990s and early 2000s, the community expanded to meet the needs of a growing population of active older adults. Assisted living, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation were added on campus, allowing residents to remain in one familiar setting even as their needs changed. In 2004, the Greenwood and Rosewood centers opened, along with additional villas and apartments designed with resident input and modern conveniences.

The early years also saw Laurel Lake earn national accreditation as a Continuing Care Retirement Community and become part of respected regional healthcare systems. These partnerships helped strengthen the quality of care and services residents enjoy today.
