"Eliot Ness' Cleveland: Prohibition, Beer 
and the Torso Murders"

April 25, 2011-- Laurel Lake and Western Reserve Historical Society will present a Distance Learning program via live videoconference at Laurel Lake, Monday May 9 at 3:30 PM.

Many people remember Eliot Ness as the Treasury Agent who, with his group of "Untouchables," brought down Chicagoan Al Capone.  But did you know that he spent time in Cleveland as the city's Director of Public Safety?

Cleveland in the 1930s was rife with police corruption. Ness formed a new "Untouchable" group of six to curb these activities, and made powerful enemies in the process. Travel back to the time when Cleveland had bootleggers, speakeasies and unsolved crimes including the Kingsbury Run Murders (a.k.a. Torso Murders). Out of Chicago came Eliot Ness to save the city. As prohibition ended, the beer industry bubbled up. Enjoy a trip to the rip-roarin' 1930s in our own hometown.
