SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has primary accountability to establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard Laurel Lake’s financial assets. In addition, this position assures the financial stability and reporting standards that reliably communicate financial results. This position is also responsible for the overall IT services including software, hardware and all support for staff and residents.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance.
EXPERIENCE: Five or more years of experience with increased responsibility in Continuing Care Retirement Community. Preferred experience with entrance fee business model .
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Specific knowledge, training or skills required to perform the duties of this position. Specific concepts, courses, training programs or required certifications.
- Knowledge of health care billing and reimbursement processes
- Working knowledge of accounting/business office software packages
- Leadership skills: Coaching, team building, goal setting, decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills
- In-depth emotional intelligence: Demonstrated self-awareness and accurate self-assessment, sensitivity and empathy, openness, reliability and consistency.
- Proficient in Excel and Word. Answers Elite experience preferred.
PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Essential duties and responsibilities which must be performed in order to carry out the position purpose summarized above.
- Direct and manage staff: Select, hire, train, coach, counsel, monitor and assure performance and morale.
- Develop and implement standard accounting, analysis and reporting procedures. Oversee preparation of all financial reports, statements, audits, and grants, etc.
- Prepare operational and capital budgets inclusive of historical analysis and industry benchmarks; monitor expenditures and analyze variances monthly.
- Work closely with the Board, specifically the Finance Committee and Executive Director to formulate and recommend policies on banking, receipt and disbursement of funds and general fiscal matters. Monitor covenant obligations in a timely fashion as identified by the banking institutions.
- Consult with the Executive Director on all financial matters; interpret financial statements; identify potential problems on a monthly basis to identify areas of improvement for the entire management team.
- Direct cash management and asset management activities. Work closely with the Investment Management Group and Board of Directors.
- Implement Board policies regarding short and long term financial plans.
- Oversee general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions.
- Prepare and submit reports to governmental agencies. Fiscal intermediaries and regulatory agencies as required such as but not limited to the Medicare cost report, 990 and various others.
- Oversight, monitor and review of Laurel Lake employee benefit plans, meeting with the plan administrators to review plan documents, compliance and staff member utilization – health insurance and 403b pension plan.
- Oversight of the commercial and liability insurance programs to include monitoring of payouts in conjunction with other senior management leaders.
- Strategic planning involvement to include pro-forma development and reviews periodically to monitor projections and performance.
- Conduct feasibility analysis on new projects, programs, etc.
- Review and update the five year projection model as directed.
- Serve as a member of the senior management team, participating in Laurel Lake’s strategies, policies and practices.
- Plan, implement, and manage information technology and systems.
- Interact with the resident council budget and finance committee in a timely fashion to include any implementation of recommendations as agreed to.
- Monitor and Conduct competitive bids for contracts at least every other year or as indicated by board or executive director.
